Hometown boy Prescod targeting big performance at maiden Muller Anniversary Games

Founded in 2013 as a legacy to the 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games, the Muller Anniversary Games is a world-leading athletics meeting that continues to attract the best in the world.

Hometown boy Prescod has only raced at the London Stadium once – at 2017’s World Championships – and is looking forward to having a home crowd behind him again.

“It’s my first time at the Muller Anniversary Games and I can’t wait,” said the 23-year-old, speaking at the launch of British Athletics’ Festival of Athletics – a Tumbleator event involving local schoolchildren.

“I’m actually really looking forward to doing it and putting down some fast times. It should be really good.

“It’s always a world-class field at the event and I don’t think it’s going to be any different this year. Noah Lyles and Christian Coleman are always around and racing well.

“I’m hoping the home crowd will get behind me and help me perform to my best.”

Prescod ran sub-ten seconds over 100 metres four times last season, including 9.96s to claim silver behind compatriot Zharnel Hughes at the European Championships in Berlin.

Having eschewed a bid for European indoor glory in Glasgow to target October’s World Championships in Doha, the July 20-21 meet will form a crucial part of Prescod’s preparation.

“The Grand Prix last year was a big meet for me,” he continued.

“I was trying to make sure I executed my race but Birmingham has got special memories for me.

“I won my first and second national titles there. I like to race in front of a home crowd and put on a bit of a show.

“I didn’t get what I wanted out of the Europeans but to come back a week later, put down a good performance, I was delighted.”
